Most of the construction has been built in high bushfire risk zones and the use of Timbercrete blocks in high BAL zones is appropriate, due to Timbercrete bricks having superior fire resistance ratings (see the data) over most, if not all other masonry products.
The homes we visited in Victoria were in Axedale, Tolmie, Marysville (including the Marysville Lollyshop built using Timbercrete), Warrandyte, Kangaroo Ground, Kinglake, Anakie and Pomonal.

The blocks are in our 500mm Sandstone finish as can be seen in the photo's.
These blocks are sized at 192mm H x 492mm L x 120mm in thickness. They have an approximate 'R' value of R.7 and weigh approx 12kg each.
Usually these blocks sell for $6.80 each but on sale now for just $6.00* per block if you purchase 100m2.
I have over 100m2 ready to lay in stock plus corner blocks.

Timbercrete 360 Series Sandstone Bricks are becoming a popular choice with homeowners!
While Timbercrete offers a wide variety of choice for sizes of bricks and blocks, our 360 Series, 100mm thick blocks are fast becoming the most popular.
Used in either double-brick fashion (as shown in the photo's) or veneer, these blocks offer 4-5 times the 'R' rating than that of a standard clay brick, are 50% lighter in weight than clay or concrete, have super high fire ratings, fantastic acoustic properties and the list goes on.

Classic Style Home Built Using Timbercrete 'Sandstone' Bricks

Not only does the home look great, however, with the thermal qualities of Timbercrete, the bricks provide nearly 7 times more insulation value than that of a standard clay brick while still performing as a thermal mass.
These bricks were hand-made in Timbercrete's Adelaide South plant just 25 minutes down the road in McLaren Vale. Not only does the local distance mean less energy costs in transport but the Timbercrete mixture being manufactured using local timber waste and Timbercrete bricks being air-dried, means a negative use in carbon output compared to the large volumes of carbon output produced through clay brick manufacturing.
The blocks on this home are manufactured with a 'Sandstone' finish, Timbercrete blocks can also come in a 'Cobbletsone' or 'Textured' finish and a variety of colours.

Mount Barker Double Brick Timbercrete . . . R3+
This Mount Barker (SA) Studio is being built using the Timbercrete 360 Series Cobblestone bricks. This will prove to be a very energy efficient structure with high wall insulation value and the blocks also having strong thermal mass.
The use of 10mm Foilboard insulation in the cavity pushes this wall to approx R3.
The use of 'Slithers' of Timbercrete blocks in this structure have given it a very unique look and the 'Cobblestone' finish certainly suits the feel in this rural setting of Mount Barker.

Timbercrete Bricks and Loadbearing
We often receive questions regarding the loadbearing capacity of Timbercrete bricks. The questions are fair enough, as it would seem that a brick or block that's made with timber fibres might lack in certain areas and it's capacity to hold big loads might be one of those. Well we're pleased to let you know that Timbercrete has amazing strength and is a more than capable to handle loads that any other masonry block or brick can handle.
Peter Collier from Timbercrete head office explains: “Timbercrete bricks and blocks have a typical Mpa ranging from 3
Mpa to 6 Mpa. This equates to between 3000 kg and 6000 kg per 10 cm² of surface
face area (10 cm x 10 cm). This means that a standard single skin Timbercrete block with the
surface face area of 400 mm long by 200 mm wide, has a potential load bearing
capacity between 24,000 kg to 48,000 kg per single block. If there are 10
bricks or blocks in a row, this figure is multiplied by 10. If the
uninterrupted wall area (not interrupted by windows or doors) was, say; a
rectangle of 10 m long by 6 m wide, the overall wall length would be 32 lineal
metres. Divide this by 400 mm (the length of the block stated above) one would
require 32 / .4 = 80 blocks. Therefore the potential load bearing capacity is
between 1920 metric tons to 3840 metric tons.
The load-bearing capacity of Timbercrete can be increased by
increasing the percentage of binders, however considering the figures above and
the fact that increasing the binders will also have an effect on the cost there
is no rational or engineering logic for this improvement.
However, typical engineering practices never construct buildings
based on the maximum potential of the load-bearing capacity of the product.
They consider a worst-case scenario and then factor in a percentage reduction.
This practice of over engineering reduces or eliminates the possibility of
structural failure.
Certainly Timbercrete is a load bearing product for both bricks and
blocks at between 3Mpa to 6Mpa. One also needs to consider that most of the
product range represents bricks or blocks that are solid without any cavities
in contrast with most clay bricks and hollow core concrete blocks that are not
solid. This being the case the surface face area and Mpa of Timbercrete is not
compromised as a result of cavities. We also teach the practice of using a
solid mortar bed and perpendicular joints rather than a shell bed as is
typically the practice with other bricks and blocks.”

Beautiful 'Country Style' Home in Goolwa
This beautiful home, built in Goolwa on the Fleurieu Peninsula SA, is a brilliant example of Timbercrete's 360 Series 'Cobbblestone' blocks.
Built in Double-brick cavity construction, the customers are extremely happy with the thermal performance of the home, with temperatures steady between 18-25 degrees all year round and very low energy costs for heating and cooling when required.
Most of all, the impression of the home is cozy and warm and has a very soft 'country style home' appeal.
The blocks themselves have an R 0.6 rating and combined in Double-brick form give significant thermal benefit both as an insulator and thermal mass.
The size of the blocks also are a feature, being a perfect 'drop-in' replacement for clay brick increments making the 360 Series a much more environmentally friendly and energy efficient option for consideration for a standard build.
